Price Cycles and Supply-Demand Dynamics: Understanding the Underlying Logic of Price Fluctuations
MLCC prices exhibit pronounced cyclicality, driven primarily by factors such as delayed capacity expansion, adjustments in utilization rates, and shifts in downstream demand. At present, supply and demand are broadly balanced, with structural tightness concentrated in automotive‑grade and high‑capacitance products, while standard‑grade MLCCs face downward pricing pressure.

Domestic Substitution: Window of Opportunity and Key Areas for Breakthroughs
Supply-chain security and cost pressures are jointly creating an opportunity for domestic substitution in the MLCC market. In the consumer‑grade and general‑industrial segments, large‑scale adoption has already gained full momentum; meanwhile, in the automotive‑grade and RF/microwave sectors, the high‑end market remains the primary battleground. Domestic manufacturers, exemplified by Yuanci Juguang, have already achieved volume supply in both RF/microwave and general‑purpose capacitor applications. Over the next three to five years, the industry will enter a critical phase of transitioning from “substitutable” to “the preferred choice.”
Artificial Intelligence Servers and 5G: A Qualitative Shift in the Demand Structure
Artificial intelligence servers and 5G base stations have not only increased the demand for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) but have also driven market trends toward higher capacitance values, higher frequencies, and lower parasitic effects. At the same time, they have given rise to new specialized product categories—such as three-terminal and four-terminal devices, as well as reverse‑structure components—thereby reshaping the overall product portfolio.
New Energy Vehicles: The Largest Growth Market for MLCCs
Electrification has driven the MLCC content per vehicle from approximately 3,000 in internal‑combustion‑engine models to 10,000–16,000 in battery electric vehicles, making new‑energy applications the segment with the highest reliability requirements and the fastest growth.
Global MLCC Market Structure: A Three-Tiered Landscape and Concentration Levels
The global MLCC market is characterized by a three-tier structure: Japanese firms dominate the high-end segment, Korean and Taiwanese manufacturers hold the mid-range market, while mainland Chinese players are rapidly catching up. Meanwhile, production capacity for high‑end and automotive‑grade products continues to concentrate among the industry’s leading companies. This trend is not a short‑term cyclical fluctuation but rather a long‑term structural shift shaped by proprietary materials, equipment, and process technologies.
In just 13 months, a Jiangyin-based company secured a “ticket” to success.
MLCC, or multilayer ceramic chip capacitor, is often referred to as the “staple of the electronics industry.” “Take this MLCC used in AI servers, for example—its market price can range from 0.5 to 3 yuan,” said Huang Yiqin, the company’s technical director, as he gently picked up a sand-grain-sized multilayer ceramic chip capacitor from the workstation in the automated production line of Yuanci Juguang (Jiangsu) Electronics Co., Ltd., located in the Lingang Economic Development Zone. Anchored by this tiny “grain of rice,” the startup—established just over a year ago—is now aiming to capture a massive market worth more than 120 billion yuan, where the domestic substitution rate stands at only around 10%.
